I am directed by Secretary Sir E. Grey to acknowledge

you

the receipt of your letter of the 30th. ultimo (11742) res-

pecting the International Opium Convention signed at the

Hague on January 23rd, 1912.

With regard to the second paragraph of your letter, I

am to observe that, by Articles 22 and 23 of the Convention,

December 31st, 1912, was appointed as the terminal date of the

period for signature, after which the Netherland Government

are immediately to invite the Powers who have signed to

examine at the Hague the possibility of depositing ratifica-

tions.

A communication may, therefore shortly be expected from

the Netherland Government furnishing a supplementary list of

those Powers who have signed the Convention up to the 31st.
